Abstract/Contents:"Some spreader manufacturers offer several models based on the same general metering and distribution system, but with different frames, wheels, or hopper sizes. It is generally assumed by the manufacturers and by those developing spreader settings for product labels that all spreaders in such a family will use identical rate settings and deliver similar patterns. Three Earthway Ev-N-Spred spreaders were tested to compare performance. The same effective swath width was assumed for all models to allow statistical comparison of the data. There were highly significant differences in skewing and distribution rates among the models and significant differences in coefficient of variation (CV). The minimum rates in the overlapped patterns, expressed as a percent of the mean overlapped rate, were also significantly different in some cases."
