| Abstract/Contents: | Describes efforts taken at the Westwynd Golf Club in Rochester Hills, Michigan, to restore "the loss of 50 percent of the turf cover on all greens, 100 percent of the collars and an average 6 feet to 8 feet of greens approaches." States that "on [August] 28 [2006], more than 100 volunteers, including vendors and representatives from 31 golf courses, descended upon [the] semiprivate...club...to help superintendent Deron Crouse and his staff repair an overwhelming loss of turf." Explains that "the turf loss...probably was the result of a fertilizer misapplication." Mentions the creation of a turf-removal and resodding plan and a reclaimation and logistics plan. States that "the incident did result in the idea of creating what will eventually be known as the Turfgrass Emergency Response Force, or TERF for short. The task force...eventually will include a planned response and plan of attack that includes representatives from Michigan-based superintendents associations and the Michigan Turf Foundation in the event other superintendents are faced with such a crisis situation." |
