Abstract/Contents:Discusses prevention of and responsiblity for work-related accidents. States that "it's easy to point fingers and blame equipment manufacturers whenever there is a work-related accident involving a piece of heavy equipment...Pointing fingers at the manufacturer might be justified in some cases, but in most instances it probably is more accurate to place blame on equipment operators or those charged with training them." Explains that "as the journey toward an industry-specific safety standard, one thing remains constant: the duty of the employer to provide a safe workplace that, in the words of OSHA [Occupational Safety and Health Administration], is 'free of recognized hazards likely to cause death or serious physical harm.'" Concludes that "the safety of...employees is up to [the employer]."
