Abstract/Contents: | Profiles the FloWick passive capillary drainage system, stating that "FloWick takes a unique approach to solving drainage issues resulting from layering, or a discontinuity of particle texture and pore sizes, in either push-up or USGA [United States Golf Association]/California-style putting greens." Explains that "traditional remedies such as installation of sand channels or drill-and-fill aeration can create more interfaces between disparate particle sizes and pore spaces, sometimes further impeding the flow of water." Suggests that "fiberglass rope [is] the solution," stating that "the key is that fiberglass is wettable, unlike polypropylene or other rope materials [one] may be familiar with...By taking strands of certain sizes and bundling them in a specific orientation that runs in the direction [one wants] the water to flow, [they] can create a material with pore sizes like a root zone sand but with the permeability of a fine gravel - the best of both worlds." Explains that "because drainage problems associated with layered soils tend to be localized in the lower elevations of the putting greens, only those areas need be treated with FloWick." |
