| Abstract/Contents: | "Isolates of Rhizoctonia zeae and binucleate Rhizoctoniar-like fungi with low virulence and an isolate of Laetisaria arvalis from turfgrass were studied as potential agents for biocontrol of brown patch caused by R. solani. In field plots, two year olk KY31 tall fescue was inoculated with biocontrol agents one week prior to inoculation with R. solani. A total of 5 isolates, 3 appropriate controls and 4 replications were used; the experiment was repeated. Typical R. solani leaf lesions were evident in all treatments. Biocontrol isolates and R. solani were reisolated from leaves. There were significant differenced in percent disease of live leaf clippings among treatments after one month. No treatment differences were evident by visual inspection of the turfgrass stand. Isolates in order of decreasing effectiveness were L. arvalis, R. zeae, and binucleate R.-like fungi. Thus, turfgrass isolates of L. arvalis and Rhizoctonia spp. have the potential for biocontrol of brown patch cuased by R. solani." |
