Abstract/Contents:Discusses the use of evapotranspiration (ET) rate to determine water needs. States that "there are two ways to set run-times for today's irrigation systems...one method is to set a specific run-time in minutes, then water budget those times from one day to the next...another option is to use evapotranspiration." Mentions the use of weather stations to determine ET and states that "the ET feature on weather stations also helps determine the precise amount of water that is needed to replace the amount the turf plant lost due to evapotranspiration throughout that day." Also states that one can "position multiple weather stations throughout the facility...[to allow] for accurate determination of proper run-times for the different microclimates...[or] assign a different percentage value for sprinkler stations to account for these varying microclimates." Explains that "another component affecting how the user incorporates the use of ET with the irrigation system is how rainfall is used." Concludes that "no single sprinkler system should be over-watered or under-watered. ET can help ensure a golf course is more consistent in playability, and much more efficient with its water usage."
