Abstract/Contents:"The grass selective herbicides have received extensive testing regarding efficacy and compatibility with existing herbicide programs. However, little research has been conducted with emphasis on length and degree of soil persistence in the light to medium textured soils. A two year study was conducted during the summers of 1983 and 1984 on a fine sandy loam soil with < 1% O.M near Lubbock, Texas. Solutions of 0.14, 0.28, 0.42 and 0.56 kg/ha of CGA 82725, haloxyfop-methyl, DPX Y6202, sethoxydim and fluazifop-butyl were applied and incorporated to a soil depth of 7.6 cm using a power driven rotary tiller. A randomized complete block design with four replications was used. Single rows of cotton, corn, soybean and sorghum were planted through each plot. Visual ratings and soil sampels were taken at weekly intervals for eight weeks. Weekly bioassay samples were planted and maintained in a greenhouse for two weeks then rated and dry weights taken. During neither summer was there any indication of injury to cotton or soybeans. Corn and sorghum in all plots exhibited varying levels of injury and height reduction for both years but trend indicates injury in the order; sethoxydim > haloxyfop-methyl > CGA 82725 > DPX Y6202 > fluazifop-butyl. Sorghum bioassays indicated significant dry weight reductions up to six weeks after application. Dry weight reduction were ranked in the order; haloxyfop-methel > CGA 82725> DPX Y6202 > sethoxydim > fluazifop-butyl."
