Abstract/Contents: | Discusses fall armyworms, stating that "many problems [have been observed] in the typical hot spots of newly-sodded, sprigged or seeded areas, but also a lot of action in home lawns and golf courses." States that "if they [come]...by surprise and do a lot of damage, the caterpillars may be big enough that they are hard to control." Suggests that "staying vigilant during years when there are reports of fall army worm problems will encourage [superintendents] to watch for them more closely and to treat immediately when the worms are still small." Concludes that "in many ways, 2006 has turned out to be a fairly normal year with moderate problems with mole crickets and fire ants, some southern chinch bug problems in August when [the weather was] dry, and modest white grub problems in most areas." |
