| Abstract/Contents: | Describes a long-term water conservation program created in 1985 by the Southwest Florida Water Management District. Discusses "the results, successes and recommendations of one of [the] projects: 'Residential Xeriscape - A Working Demonstration.'" Describes a "Xeriscape landscape demonstration project in Port Charlotte, Florida," stating that "the purpose of 'Residential Xeriscape' was...a teaching and learning facility by providing a living example of alternative landscapes intended to conserve water." Also discusses possible additional benefits, including "public awareness from the extensive media coverage" and "data collection and analysis to measure the actual water savings of the site." Concludes that "through the public-private partnership that evolved and educational value that was provided, the Department of Education selected the project as an exemplary project of 'Partners in Education.'" |
