Abstract/Contents:"A field experiment was established at the Plant Sciences Farm of the University of Georgia College Experiment Station in 1984 to determine the influence of bermudagrass clipping interval following herbicide application on the activity of glyphosate and SC-0224 (trimethylsulfonium carboxy-methylaminomethylphosphonate). A randomized complete block split-plot design with 4 replications was utilized. All treatments were applied to established bermudagrass sod in 280 1 of water/ha at 3.2 kg/hr with a CO2 backpack sprayer. Treatments included glyphosate and SC-0224, each at rates of 2.8, 4.2, and 5.7 kg/ha based on the salt equivalent, and a nontreated control. Each of 7 treatments were clipped at 0, 1, 2, 3, and 7 days after herbicide application with a flail-type plot forage harvester. Visual evaluations of percent regreening were made 3, 4, and 5 weeks after herbicide application. Fresh weights of bermudagrass regrowth were taken 8 weeks after herbicide application. All treatments clipped one or more days after herbicide application exhibited significantly less regreening than the control. Some differences were observed between treatments of equal rates and clipping dates in plots clipped 1, 2, and 3 days after treatment and in each case where a significant difference occurred, the glyphosate had more regreening. There were no significant differences between treatments of equal rates clipped 7 days after herbicide application. Acceptable control of established bermudagrass was not achieved at any rate of glyphosate or SC-0224 regardless of clipping date."
