| Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the development of a maintenance budget for an athletic field. States that "when it comes to maintaining...fields it all really begins and ends with a budget...as a grounds manager [one needs] to realize that a budget is vital to...survival." Also states that "it is extremely important to understand the budget process...[and] operating within a budget is a very important part of [a greenkeeper's] duties." Lists acreage, staff, duties, money, and programs to support as elements to consider when developing a maintenance budget. Also lists activity inventory, personnel, training, and equipment as "crucial in putting a successful budget together." Concludes that "nothing is more persuasive than a well written document such as a budget proposal...Preparing a budget proposal is not a time for misplaced pride. Those who are the decision makers are good at what they do. As good [as a greenkeeper is] in making [his or her] fields looking spectacular, [he or she] also [needs] to be as good in preparing [a] budget." |
