Abstract/Contents:Describes how the San Diego region "began importing supplemental water to augment its limited local supplies in the late 1940's...[however] imported water is no longer considered a supplemental supply; it is the region's primary supply." States that "in May, 1989 the San Diego County Board of Supervisors directed its Chief Administrative Officer to develop a Water Management Workplan to address such issues as water conservation, reclamation, legislative policy, emergency preparedness and public awareness." Discusses the Landscape Water Conservation Ordinance, which "requires...submittal of a water management plan consisting of the following elements: Statement of Site Conditions; Water Requirements; Water Delivery Systems; and Summary of Water Conservation Methods and Water Savings." Describes the Low-Flow Water Closet Ordinance, which "requires the installation of low-flow (1.6 gallon) water closets in all projects requiring County approval" and the Water Reclamation, which "deals with water reclamation." Concludes that "the Board of Supervisors has directed the Chief Administrative Officer to develop an Action Plan to reduce water use throughout County facilities and parks, to work closely with the Water Authority an [and] others to expand public awareness programs, and to examine opportunities for conservation retrofit programs in cooperation with other cities and water purveyors."
