Abstract/Contents:Brief overview of how drainage affects turf quality. Signs of poor drainage include: sedges and cattails, stunted and yellow plants and trees, a color change in the soil from brown to gray, standing water, salt crusts, and tight soils lacking in structure. Good drainage promotes: better roots, soil aeration, fertility and increased microbial activity. Describes the proper construction of drainage trenches with tiles.
