Abstract/Contents:Briefly reviews "what is known about the effects of public education programs on water conservation; conservation being the beneficial reduction in water use and/or water losses." States that "the potential dividends to a better understanding of the public response to water conservation educational efforts are twofold: (1) to better predict the extent of public acceptance of conservation measures in order to obtain more precise estimates of effectiveness in water supply planning and (2) to promote efficiency in water use." Explains that "economic factors such as income, number of persons per household, price of water, and value of home are closely related to residential water use." Presents two case studies: in the first, "a wide and diverse range of factors was [were] analyzed to predict consumer adoption of water conservation measures" and the second concludes "that the public information campaign had a significant impact on the consumer's knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors pertaining to water use and conservation."
