Abstract/Contents:Discusses bunker renovations conducted at Bent Creek Country Club in Lititz, Pennsylvania. Details the construction of the course, "stating that with the relatively flat, rolling terrain typical of the area, [golf course architect Jay] Morris only had 20' (feet) elevations to work with." Cites heavy rain in June 2000 "when eight inches of rain fell in only four hours one day...the sand was so contaminated with migrated silt that the drainage system essentially stopped working." Details the renovation process, stating that the construction crew "removed approximately eight feet of sod around the perimeter of each bunker, and worked with their track and skid loaders completely within those confines." States that the renovated design "called for raising the floor of most bunkers up to two feet to soften the severity of the slopes, but retained the flashing for visual impact." Concludes that superintendent Jim Locke's "experience to date with the [updated] bunkers indicates some labor savings after rain events."
