Abstract/Contents:Presents a study conducted "to assess the influence of two irrigation regimes and selected chemicals for their ability to lower the incidence and severity of dollar spot in creeping bentgrass and gray leaf spot in perennial ryegrass maintained under golf course fairway conditions." Details the materials and methods used in the study, stating that " in autumn 2001, eight (30 x 10 ft [feet]) independently irrigated sites were established to assess the main effects of two irrigation regimes consisting of i) infrequent irrigation equivalent to 100% of the estimated evapotranspiration applied every 4-6 days and ii) light (0.2" [inches] water) frequent (daily) irrigation, which is a common practice for numerous golf course managers during summer months in the Mid-Atlantic [United States] region." States that "during the study, the plots were rated for disease incidence and severity, and turfgrass quality." Reports that "irrigation frequency had no consistent effect on creeping bentgrass or perennial ryegrass quality. While infrequent irrigation did result in improved bentgrass quality on some dates in the latter part of the summer, it also resulted in more blighting by S. homoeocarpa."
