Abstract/Contents:Presents a study conducted to determine the effectiveness of Pendulum, Scotts, and other preemergence herbicides for crabgrass control on perennial ryegrass. Details the materials and methods used in the study. Reports that "in Maryland, under conditions of extreme crabgrass pressure, preemergence herbicides generally provided poor control when applied in a single rather than a split (i.e., sequential) applications." Results indicate that "none of the treatments would provide commercially acceptable crabgrass control." Concludes that "given the exceptionally severe levels of crabgrass, Pendulum 3.8CS (1.5+1.5 lb/A [pounds per acre]) was judged to have provided excellent control (13% crabgrass cover)."
