Abstract/Contents: | Describes Gareth Phillips' experience as a part of the greenkeeping team at Hoylake for the 2006 Open Championship. Discusses changes that were made to the course for the championship, including the routing of the course and revetting the bunkers. States that "the nutritional regime during the lead-in period to the championship included five applications of iron at half rate every 4-5 weeks throughout the winter months." Mentions that "regular maintenance tasks continued such as verti cutting the greens four times each between early May to early June." Also states that "the Monday before the tournament saw the Hoylake crew increased to 22 from 10 members." Reports that after the event, "the galleries [were] dismantled...miles of television cable [was] pulled up...[and] the work for the green keepers [remained] intensive with the renovation of the course to be considered." |
