Abstract/Contents:Describes how to implement environmentally friendly initiatives on the golf course. States that "averting key areas such as wetlands, riparian areas or other locations where golf course development could negatively impact the environment and water quality" should be considered to increase the functionality of golf course design. Profiles the Cook's Creek Golf Course near Columbus, Ohio and describes the benefits when making environmentally sound decisions. States that "the most challenging environmental issue facing golf courses today involves water quality and conservation." Suggests that "some of the techniques involved in conserving, protecting and enhancing water quality, include using alternative sources such as effluent treatment system, surface harvesting and storage; utilizing improved delivery systems; taking advanced measurements of irrigation need; modifying rootzones; using more hand watering; specifying drought-resistant grasses; monitoring irrigation water quality; monitoring surface and subsurface water quality; providing adequate filtration through vegetative buffers; and implementing significant stormwater management techniques and design." Discusses the use of wireless sensoring on the golf course.
