| Abstract/Contents: | Profiles the fungal genus Rhizoctonia, which contains many species that cause plant diseases. States that "Rhizoctonia species all share similar microscopic characteristics such as hyphae with right angle branching including a constriction at the branch point." Explains that Rhizoctonia had not been documented in Canada before 2003 other than in British Columbia, but "in late May 2004, a disease appeared on all 18 greens at a golf course near Toronto, looking very much like yellow patch caused by R. cerealis." Discusses treatments used to control the disease. Concludes that "fungicides controlling brown patch will generally control sheath spot, and among these, the strobilurins are the most effective chemicals to control an outbreak." |
