Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the change from warm season bermudagrass to cool season creeping bentgrass on putting surfaces at Augusta National in 1981. Explains that "switching to this...breed of turfgrass was made possible thanks to advances in bentgrass breeding, which produced varieties more tolerant to heat stress." Concludes that "according to a survey of Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) members, 61 per cent believe even if [2006] varieties of bermudagrass had been available back in 1981, Augusta National would still have made the conversion." |
