Abstract/Contents:Discusses a project that was "initiated in 1996 for the purpose of determining how fertilizers of different compositions influence select measures of soil quality and how these relate to turf quality." Details the methods used and observations. States that "the data collected in the first 2 years of this study indicate that while the fertilizers applied to [do] have some influence on soil microbial activity as measured by CO2 production, microbial activity is not having a significant influence on turf quality." Concludes that "with application of 0.5 lb [pound] N/month [nitrogen per month], turf quality ratings are high and fertilizer differences difficult to detect."
