Abstract/Contents:Discusses weaknesses of the United States Golf Association (USGA) putting green, including "levels of microbial activity, a tendency to develop localized dry spot, shallow rooting of turfgrass and high rates of potassium leaching." Presents a project conducted to determine the extent to which amendment of root zone mix with organic materials can overcome any or all of these weaknesses." States that "incorporation of Milorganite and other organic materials into commercial sand-peat root zone mixes results in more rapid and uniform turfgrass establishment, high sustained quality, and greater ease of management"; "Milorganite is superior to certain other commercial products as an organic supplement"; and "the option exists for on-site or off-site blending into root zone mixes." Concludes that "supplementation of the commercial root zone mix with Milorganite, Sustane, or OptiMil enhanced grow-in of the putting greens."
