Annotation from
Golf Course Design,
by Geoffrey S. Cornish and Michael J. Hurdzan:
"One of the most unique books in all of course architecture literature - ever! Travel and Leisure Golf published this booklet as a gift to special guests, advertisers and supporters. Accordingly it was never available for purchase. The number of copies printed was limited, and it was bound in soft leather, document cover, rather than a traditional front and back cover. Although this alone makes it unique, it is what's inside that sets it apart. When Rees Jones, ASGCA, accepted the task to restore the classic Tillinghast course on Long Island, known as Bethpage Black, for the 2002 US Open, he made extensive field notes. On each hole he made a drawing and then annotated it with his private and professional thoughts about what needed to be done to develop the full potential of the hole as originally conceived by Tillinghast. These notes appear as an overlay, along with Rees' commentary about the hole. This is a special book, about a special project, authored by a special person in the world of course design who has contributed a special feeling to the art form ever since he revised The Country Club for the 1988 Open." p. 79
