Abstract/Contents:Discusses pest problems that may occur in August and September. States that "August [2006] was a very hot month with its share of scattered thunderstorms...[and] as a result [superintendents] have seen healthy populations of southern chinch bugs on St. Augustinegrass. In addition, mole cricket damage has been severe, but the dry weather in many areas had resulted in modest damage as the crickets remain deeper in the soil" in North and South Carolina. Mentions that "if these areas get good, soaking rains, the expect the damage to increase rapidly." Mentions fall armyworm infestation, stating that "this pest can be a problem well into the fall, and any areas that have recently been sodded or sprigged should be watched very closely." Concludes that "as with almost every insect pest, it is much better to control fall armyworms when they are small prior to them causing severe damage. Since the moths lay eggs on fence psots, buildings, shrubs, etc, the damage almost always beings along the edge of the turf and moves in each night."
