| Abstract/Contents: | Discusses a "prolonged drought with record-low rainfall levels [which] had serious impacts on water users and the environment" in California, from late 1986 until winter 1991/1992. Discusses a poster which "focuses on the drought related demand reduction programs carried out by three water purveyors on the South Coast of Santa Barbara County: the City of Santa Barbara, the Goleta Water District and the Montecito Water District." Compares the "drought response efforts conducted by the three larger south coast water utilities, to evaluate their effectiveness and to determine which programs should be maintained as part of a long term effort to promote efficient use of water." Describes water conservation programs implemented in the three areas including school education, brochures and handouts, and a Water Awareness Month. Concludes that "an important aspect of this research is an understanding of customer opinion and what motivates customers to respond to water rates and conservation programs." |
