Abstract/Contents:States that "California experienced a severe drought from 1986-1992...[and] after assessing the serious impending water shortage, the City of Santa Barbara implemented a comprehensive public information program as a portion of the drought response plan. The public information element of the plan became an extremely important avenue to keep residents informed on the water supply status, water demand reduction strategies, and policy decisions." Also states that "the benefits of an extensive public information program include maintaining a positive relationship with the public and receiving community support for the agency's program." Concludes that "public information has been essential in maintaining water use efficiency as an integral part of...[Santa Barbara's]... long-term water supply program."
