Abstract/Contents:States that "while there are many variations on what makes a successful project and garden, there are a few items that most water conservation professionals agree are critical to a good project: 1. make a good match for the community garden site"; "2. provide guidance and coaching"; "3. provide seed money"; "4. involve a professional landscape architect or designer and irrigation professional"; "5. give ownership of the project, including project leadership, to the people at the site whether employees, teachers, parents and/or students"; "6. use the garden to focus activites and celebrate results." Advises to "1. Don't go it alone - create and use more business and community partners"; and "2. let things happen so the project can grow - don't micro-manage." Concludes that "a community water conserving garden can be a project with teaching possibilities and community involvement."
