Abstract/Contents:"In 1992, the Water Conservation Unit at the East Bay Muncipal District conducted a survey to compare daily water consumption of single-family detached residential homes with front-yard water conserving landscapes and homes with front-yard traditional turf-oriented landscapes. Results yielded a statistically significant water savings of 42.2 percent for homes utilizing water conserving landscapes. Correlations were found between daily water consumption and turf to yard area ratios, as well as between percentage water saving and estimated lot size. These correlations, however, were not found to be statistically significant and only point to areas warranting further research."
