| Abstract/Contents: | Details the "Plant Water Wise" campaign created in Lincoln, Nebraska in 1990. States that "Lincoln's water demand is driven by a number of variables including cost of water, temperature, rainfall and effective water conservation measures." Describes Lincoln and its water system, public-private involvement, conservation landscaping, and other strategies. Discusses the impacts and results of the "Plant Water Wise" campaign. Recommends that communities that "wish to be involved in a proactive water conservation plan: go to business and industry and ask them to be a part of the solution...develop a long-term relationship with industry built on trust and understanding [and] work toward having business and industry regulate itself first, instead of initiating mandates." |
