Abstract/Contents: | Discusses how "one of the U.S. [United States] military's most popular courses is undergoing major changes that officials hope will make the U.S. Navy Golf Course the showpiece of all government-owned golf installations." Describes the new Spanish mission-style clubhouse and states that "by 2009, the complex will include 36 newly constructed two-bedroom vacation cottages, a European-style health spa and water sports center." Also describes how the Defense Department cutbacks in the 1990s "closed U.S. Marine bases at El Toro and Tustin, as well as the huge U.S. Navy Weapons Station in nearby Seal Beach." Concludes that "golf in Southern California is about enjoying a full experience from the time you drive into the parking lot to the time you leave...the clubhouse is at the center of that experience." |
