Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the issue of balancing between managing wildlife and playing conditions on the golf course. States that "the secret to wooing wildlife is fairly simple...four keys are adequate amounts of space, food, cover and water." Describes how "by keeping a healthy wildlife population [the superintendent] can restore natural balance as opposed to letting the wildlife get out of control." Details how the Audubon International may be a good resource "for superintendents looking to boost their wildlife population." Concludes that "not only does [wildlife] add pleasure to the game, it's a tremendous money saver in terms of chemicals, equipment and manpower...people don't realize how maintaining your course in as natural a way as possible promotes its ability to do well at a lower cost and become much more pleasant to play." |
