Abstract/Contents:Describes how the Golf and the Environment Initiative began in 1995, stating that "it led to the formation of a set of design, architectural and management guidelines for golf courses that became known as the 'Environmental Princeples for Golf Courses in the United States.'" Discusses how the group has completed an "Environmental Siting Guide for Golf Course Development," as well as the "Environmental Handbook for Military Course." Also discusses topics to be discussed at the next Golf Industry Show, February 19-20, 2007, including "are things better now, from an environmental perspective, than they were 10 years ago?" and "what are the indicators of change and improvement within the golf industry?" States that "the Golf and the Environment event helped to continue to build awareness of certainly some of the things [the industry] had been trying to accomplish." Describes a summit held to bring together "golf people" and "environmental people," stating that "environmentalists discovered that many in the golf community cared about the environment a great deal...in turn, those in the golf industry realized that not all environmentalists are radical reactionaries."
