| Abstract/Contents: | Discusses a study conducted to show "how successfully an old, mismanaged sod can be rejuvinated." States that "specific objectives are: (1) to quantify changes in turf quality brought about through fertilization; (2) to assess the role of aerification in turfgrass rejuvination; (3) to relate turfgrass quality changes to nitrogen application, soil tests and tissue analyses; and (4) to quantify seasonal turfgrass growth and nutrient removal rates." Reports that "either slow growth rates prevented response to the different N [nitrogen] rates or the fertilizer N was largely depleted." Discusses response to phosphorus, potassium, and aerification. Concludes that "the preliminary results of this study by no means indicate that aerification is an important component of a turfgrass renovation program." |
