Abstract/Contents: | Brief report on the completed four-year study by the Sports Turf Research Institute on the playing quality of natural playing surfaces for several sports. Project aims were: 1) to identify the important playing characteristics i.e. interactions between the ball and the surface and between the player and the surface for Association Football and level greeen bowls, 2) to develop test apparatus for the quantitative assessment of these playing characteristics, 3) to monitor the playing quality of antural turf sports surface with particular emphasis on different types of football pitch construction, and 4) to propose standards of playing quality for Association Football and level green bowls. |
