Abstract/Contents:Discusses heavy rains in California, that "wiped out at least two...golf courses, damaged several others and caused headaches for golf course superintendents throughout the region." States that "it is the volume of the rain in a short period of time that caused the havoc...The National Weather Service said Los Angeles received a record 16.97 inches of rainfall from [December] 27 to [January] 10 [2005]." Explains that "although most golf courses in the region reported only loss of business as the main frustration, a few suffered substantial damage due to the rains." Concludes that "despite the headaches and heartaches caused by the moisture plume, the rains brought a respite from the drought that has gripped much of the Southwest for seven years."
