| Abstract/Contents: | Presents a study conducted "to develop long term, balanced mixtures of two moderately aggressive bermuda cultivars and blends of improved cultivars of several cool season species." Details methods and materials used in the study, stating that "ten year old 10' [foot] x 40' 'Midmo' and 'Midiron' bermudagrass plots, each replicated 4 times were verticut in September 1987 to remove approximately 50% of the green sward...Turf receives 2 lb. [pounds] of N [nitrogen]/1000 sq. ft. [square feet] of a complete fertilizer during the fall; 1 lb. N in late March; 1 lb. N in late June for an annual total of 4 lb. N/1000 sq. ft." Reports that "functional quality of bermudagrass + Kentucky bluegrass, bermudagrass + perennial ryegrass, bermudagrasa + p.r. + k.b., and bermudagrass + k.b. + p.r. + chewings fescue, remained in an acceptable range at the conclusion of the spring traffic treatments...[but] fall traffic reduced quality of bermudagrass + Kentucky bluegrass and bermudagrass + k.b. + per. ryegrass + chewings fescue below the level considered acceptable for sports turf." Concludes that "quality ratings for 'Midmo' + cool season species and 'Midiron' plus cool season species were similar at most dates during 1989. Shifts in percent cool season species-bermudagrass populations were noted as the study progressed." |
