Abstract/Contents: | "Ten cultivars of Kentucky bluegrass, four varieties of perennial ryegrass and two varieties of fescue were grown in the greenhouse at the rates of 0, 1, 2, and 4 lbs. nitrogen per 1000 sp ft. Turf varieties were hand mowed weekly for 5 weeks and yield weight and nutrient content analyses were performed. Turfgrass species and cultivars indicated an increase in total nitrogen uptake with increased levels of nitrogen applications, as well as a percent nitrogen level in the tissue. Kentucky bluegrass contained higher tissue N at comparable rates of applied nitrogen than perennial ryegrass or fescue. Differences in P, K. Fe, and Zn were also observed. After five weeks of growth, visual quality appearance was generally better at the 1 and 2 lbs/1000 sp. ft. than the check, but not the higher rate of 4 lb. rate." |
