| Abstract/Contents: | "Bermudagrass areas for these studies were selected for known goosegrass problem history. The groundcover with bermudagrass was poor initially and cultural practices to improve turfgrass quality were initiated. DSMA gave temporary discoloration of goosegrass and recovery was apparent within 5 days. Repeated applications of DSMA provided some control and appeared to keep the goosegrass in a more succulent stage easily mowed. Goosegrass became fiberous and difficult to mow during August in these studies. Metribuzin provided superior goosegrass control; however, several applications were sometimes needed. Fewer applications were necessary when the first treatment was delayed until more goosegrass has germinated. Asulam provided excellent control of mature goosegrass and gave less phytotoxicity to bermudagrass during August. Considerable injury to the turfgrass was apparent when asulam was applied too early after bermudagrass resumed new growth in Spring. A mixture of metribuzin and DSMA provided excellent goosegrass control in bermudagrass. Lower rates of metribuzin were essential in mixture with DSMA." |
