Abstract/Contents: | Discusses a speech given by Tim Finchem at the Professional Golfers' Association (PGA) Tour Championship concerning the state of the golf ball. Mentions several highlights of the speech including a discussion of "options should the Tour decide it has no choice but to cut back the distance of the golf ball." States that "by itself, the USGA [United States Golf Association] is too weak to make a rules change of this magnitude" but with Finchem's help the rules could be changed. Suggests that "the ball will be detuned to bring driving distance back to the 2003 level" of 286.3 yards. Explains that the golf ball might be regulated by 2003 standards because "titanium driver technology and solid-core golf ball evolution reached their zenith in 2003." |
