Abstract/Contents:Discusses fall fertilization, stating that "a September fertilizer application can be critical to facilitate recovery from summer stress damage whether it be from drought, insects, or diseases." Discusses nitrogen release sources, stating that "there are two general...release sources:quick and slow", and lists these sources, including urea, ammonium nitrate, and ammonium sulfate." Suggests using a combination of slow and quick release sources for fall fertilization to "stimulate the turf to recover through increased tillering, rhizome, and root growth." Describes potential environmental concerns surrounding nitrate-nitrogen leaching, stating that "research from the Long Term Nutrient Fate Research Area at MSU [Michigan State University] has indicated that there is a greater potential to leach nitrate-nitrogen from urea applications that are applied in late [October]/early [November] than at any other time during the year."
