Abstract/Contents:Explains the possible problems that arise from shrinking open spaces, including the loss of "recreational opporunities...places in which to interact with nature...habitat for [the] wildlife...and, consequently...native wildlife." Suggests "viewing golf courses as open space", which "represent thousands upon thousands of acres of land perfectly situated to support wild- and plant-life habitats." Discusses the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program (ACSP), which was "developed to help public and private courses think through the changes that would make them more nature-friendly, without sacrificing the sporting experience they provide to their members or customers." Provides statistics from the 2007 ACSP Participant Survey.
