| Abstract/Contents: | Discusses "the process involved in selecting and keeping good personnel" on a golf course. Explains that "interviews are by far the best way to gather data about a future employee" and lists "interpersonal style"; "job knowledge"; and "citizenship" as three categories to discuss when interviewing. Mentions some common mistakes made by interviewers including asking unrelated questions, asking different questions for each applicant, and excessive talking. Discusses problem employees and recommends dismissal of an employee when "employee engages in patterns of improper or disorderly conduct"; "work is done in an inefficient manner or is in violation of established stnadards"; and "repeated violations of rules and regulations, resulting in full, temporary or partial closing of golf course operations." Concludes that "properly selecting candidates, giving them ongoing feedback through performance appraisals, dealing directly with problem employees and praising those who are performing well, will go a long way in establishing a winning team." |
