| Abstract/Contents: | Defines a crisis as "a situation which is threatening, or could threaten, to harm people or property and which severely imperils your organization's ability to succeed in its mission, or which damages its reputation." Discusses effective crisis management, recommending golf course superintendents remain calm, focused, and prepare by having leadership, teamwork, and a strategy. Briefly describes the CAPER (Containment Assessment Planing Execution Reorganization and Recovery) crisis management framework. Presents several situations to be prepared for as a golf course superintendent including natural disasters, sick employees, and fire. Concludes that "effective crisis management involves keeping focused on...[the] mission, applying common sense and making informed decisions. By applying a few simple strategies and learning to anticipate, as best as possible, uncontrolled situations and preparing for them,...[you] can lessen the impact of what might be a disastrous situation." |
