| Abstract/Contents: | Discusses pesticide regulations, stating that "a product's ability to pass the EPA's [Environmental Protection Agency] strigent review is the single most important factor that determines how pesticides are formulated and which ones are brought to the market." Explains that "due to scientific advancements in how...chemistries are discovered and synthesized to isolate their most active components, lower rates of active ingredients are necessary because of how biologically highly active a chemistry is on the target species." Discusses combination products, which include at least two modes of action against one or more pests. Mentions research on factors that affect the perception of safety, including color and odor. Concludes that "there will continue to be more regulatory pressure and more legislation related to pesticides, both at the federal as well as at the state and local level...it's up to the manufacturers to come up with products that will meet regulatory mandates as well as their customers' demands." |
