Abstract/Contents: | Describes erosion problems at Mississauga Golf and Country Club caused by the Credit River. Dicusses possible solutions proposed by the Credit Valley Conservation Authority (CVCA), including "to repair and extend the existing armour stone wall beside the fourth green. Another option was to incorporate some form of bioengineering to stabilize the river banks." States that "the three key elements to the success of [the] plan involved: a)realignment using turning stones and rock veins to direct the flow of water along the center of the...channel; b) a grade control structure to slow the flow of water past the area being eroded; and c) bioengineering to help stabilize and protect the banks." Details the construction of the banks beside the fourth and ninth holes. Lists "benefits to the golf course and Credit River system" after the realignment of the river, including that "stabilization and protection of the banks has eliminated land loss caused by erosion and ice scour. This in turn has reduced the amount of sediment in the water." |
