| Abstract/Contents: | Discusses how to effectively manage water usage. States that "distribution uniformity (DU) of an irrigation system is a measure of how uniformly a system applies water to a crop surface...DU is important because it influences the amount of required irrigation, even when ETcrop [evapotranspiration crop] remains unchanged." Discusses how to accurately determine irrigation run times and describes the "catch can test" to check the system. Mentions that "maximizing irrigation system uniformity is one of the most important steps an irrigator can take to optimize his irrigation." Concludes that "with a proficient irrigation system and frequent controller program updates, golf course superintendents should begin to see improved plant quality and performance with savings in water and energy." |
