Abstract/Contents: | The effectiveness of 4 pesticide treatments for the control of pests and pathogens of re-seeds of Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum) and thereby for improving establishment and herbage yield was evaluated in field-plot tests in the UK in 1979-80. The only treatment that improved yields (a aldicarb granules both at 5 kg a.i./ha) was also the only one to reduce significantly the large frit-fly complex (which includes Oscinella frit (L.)). As populations of other pests were very small (probably as a result of presowing cultivations), it seemed likely that the frit-fly complex was responsible for the damage observed. |
