Abstract/Contents:Discusses the use of preemergent herbicides. Explains that "they are primarily used to control annual grassy weeds like crabgrass, but some forms of preemergents do control certain types of broadleaf weeds as well." Discusses timing of preemergent herbicides, suggesting that they "are most effective when applied before soil reaches 55 degrees Fahrenheit, when crabgrass germinates." Also suggests "applying a preemergent as close to weed germiniation time as possible to get the best control." Discusses factors to consider when selecting a preemergent herbicide, including price and efficacy. Concludes that "a main goal [for lawn care operators (LCOs)] of using preemergent herbicides is to control weeds in a way that results in fewer callbacks and happier customers. Although methods of preemergent application will vary from region to region, all businesses can benefit by using effective products correctly, informing their clients to do their part and utilizing product advancements."
