Abstract/Contents:Surface application of gypsum to high pH soils in turf areas has not always proven effective in allowing sodium ions to be leached and the desired improvement in color and texture is not always shown. Where the water is of high pH, the bicarbonate and calcium ion concentrations are appreciable in the irrigation water, improvements are not seen as gypsum may cause stress severe enough to cause turf loss. Study observations of problems associated with gypsum are given.
